Julia Chien is a Taiwanese-American animator based in Brooklyn who finds bugs fascinating in theory, but terrifying in practice. Julia's films have screened internationally at festivals such as Animafest Zagreb, Animation Block Party, Sweaty Eyeballs, Athens Animfest, Animafantasia, and Ivy Film Festival. She recently performed her first theatrical work as an artist-in-residence with the Object Movement Festival at the Center at West Park. She graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2022 with a BFA in Film/Animation/Video. Her films explore the unspoken, the textural, and the gooey.
Julia is a faculty member at the Rhode Island School of Design where she teaches traditional animation techniques. She currently works for Saturday Night Live as a VFX artist on their digital shorts. Recently, her compositing work helped garner an Emmy in Outstanding Motion Design for the documentary series "OCTOPUS!". Julia is a freelance animator, compositor, and editor who has worked for clients such as adultswim, Coach, the Documentary Group, Govball, and more.
